National Road Safety Conference 2022

Doctors for Road Safety organised a National Road Safety Conference under the distinguished Patronage of His Excellency Dr George Vella President of Malta. The conference was held on the 12th November 2022 at the Verdala Palace, Siggiewi. The theme of the conference was ‘How can we reach Vision Zero’.

The conference had local and foreign invited speakers who addressed issues around road safety in Malta, with particular emphasis on Vision Zero and the safe systems approach.

Keynote sessions were delivered  by Mr Jonathan Passmore Programme Manager on Road Safety, Violence and Injury Prevention from the World Health Organisation and Mr Trevor Hall Managing Director Road Safety Support (UK).

Other sessions were delivered by Dr Gordon Caruana Dingli Vice-President Doctors for Road Safety, Mr Pierre Vella Executive Chairperson Road Safety Council, Dr Antoine Casha Senior Visiting Lecturer Department of Criminal Law University of Malta (UM) and Prof. Gordon Sammut Associate Professor Faculty of Social Wellbeing UM.

The Conference was also attended and addressed by the Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects the Hon Dr Aaron Farrugia.

Delegates included a wide stakeholder representation including authorities involved in road transport, safety and enforcement, NGOs and media, as well as family members of road crash victims.

This event was supported by the Office of HE Dr George Vella President of Malta, the Tara Malou Licari Fund and Road Safety Support (UK).
